This recipe is an alternative to the south indian sambhar, except an easier version. You can enjoy this with rice or roti. You will need a homemade masala powder (not sambhar powder, this is different one) + a vegetable of your choice ( i used beans) + 1 cup of cooked toor dhal.
To make the masala powder:
Lightly fry 1/2 cup of coconut flakes, + 1 tsp of pepper + 5-6 red chillies and powder coarsely without adding any water.
Pressure cook about 1/2 cup of toor dhal and mash and keep aside. Cut about 10 – 15 beans into small pieces and steam for 3-4 minutes in microwave. In a wide mouthed pan, add 2 tbps of oil, add mustard, jeera seeds, beans and fry for 3-5 minutes, add the cooked dhal + salt + 2 tsp of masala powder and mix well and simmer for about 10 – 15 minutes until the sauce thickens.
